Desalter
Is a magnesium enriched calcium solution designed to promote the displacement of sodium ions from soils where they have accumulated, either due to an excessive contribution of fertilizers in irrigation waters, or due to the salts rising because of the elevation of water tables.
Desalter works by exchanging the sodium ions of the exchange complex for calcium and magnesium ions allowing these ions to be drained through a leaching phenomenon towards a more internal soil profile.
